Uses for Single Socks

Can't find the match to that sock? Before following any of these tips for using single socks, hold onto your lonesome friend for two weeks. His partner may appear. Once the wait is over, get to work by following these tips:
  • Sock Airfreshener

Fill a knee high hose with some activated charcoal (the kind that goes in an aquarium), and hang it wherever there is a musty smell.

  • Sock Moth Prevention

You can hang a kneehigh full of mothballs underneath your house to keep it from smelling musty. It also keeps mice and bugs away. Mice hate the smell of peppermint, so you can use some cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil in the kneehigh if you hate the smell of mothballs.

  • Sock Neck Rest

Fill a single long sock or tube sock with long grain white rice, and tie a knot in the end of the sock or sew the end closed. Microwave for 2 minutes whenever you need a heating pad for a sore neck, back, sinuses, etc. White rice is a dense, durable, and moldable filling that retains heat or cold for a long period of time, is nearly odor-free, and comfortably mold to your body shape.

  • Sock Backscrubber

Make a backscrubber. Cut the legs off of a pair of pantyhose. Insert a bar of soap into one of the legs, centering the soap so it is in the middle of the leg. Secure it there by tying a knot on both sides of the soap. You can use this to wash your back with or your entire body. The nylon acts as a mild abrasive to exfoliate the skin.

  • Sock Dust Mit

Use old socks to dust with as a mitten over your hand. Spray your furniture polish right onto the sock to keep it from getting on surfaces that should be protected.

  • Sock Washcloth

Insert your hand into one and use it to wash your dishes, countertops, microwave interior, or anything that needs a sudsy cloth for a good, clean result.

  • Sock Puppets

Make puppets out of old socks. Donate them to a school for Kindergarten art projects.

  • Sock Carwash Cloth

Use old socks to wash or wax cars. Though the sock will end up in the landfill, it won.t mean putting paper towels there, too. Plus, who wants to put waxy rags in the same washing machine that washes your clothes?

  • Sock Bathroom Clearner

Use old socks to scrub the bathroom. If you use bleach products, there.s no need to put white spots on your cleaning rags. Just use an old sock . color doesn.t matter. When you are done, just throw the sock and any bacteria away.

  • Sock Ceiling Fan Cleaner

An easy way to clean the ceiling fan is to cover your hands in a pair of old socks, and dip them in warm sudsy water and run your hand over top and bottom of each blade. Use another dry sock to dry the blades and buff them to a shine.
